What We Have Lost

It is all about the head, hands and heart. We fill our head with knowledge, and temper what our hands build with the judgments given by our hearts. So, what is wrong with this? Well, everything when it stops working as a philosophy.

Our country is broken. Something went wrong with what we put in our heads and hearts because now we don’t know what to do with our hands.
Let’s take an example from ranching. The land was an asset and something could be done with the land to garner a living. So, our heads went to work and came up with some ideas that were tempered with our hearts. We needed to eat, our country needed to eat. We had land, and it contained water, but was not well suited for agriculture. Why not allow animals to feed off the vegetation? We were there because of the water, and the animals needed that too. It was a great solution. No one was hurt, our families were provided for and, we would be able to help one another when the need arose, because our families were taken care of already and our excess was available to give.

As a result, we managed to make the land work for us. But now, we are using the land incorrectly. The land can provide for us, but where is the stewardship? What do we do for the land? Cattle ranching is unfortunately a dying lifestyle in the west. Our living patterns and our eating trends are changing. Are we consulting our hearts and our heads in deciding what to do with our hands?

Public schools have always been held in contempt by many. So what we now have in the heart is different than what was 150 years ago.

Is it regional? Is it economical? Is it status and wealth? What drives our heart now days?
We sacrifice children, we do not honor families, we no longer understand the meaning of our lands. We are barely able to take care of ourselves, and have little to nothing to offer in help others in need. How did we get here? What destroyed what is in our hearts?

Is it our family structure? Too busy working two jobs to understand and live up to the responsibility that comes with family?

Is it our heads? Do we lack for so many generations now because of poor parenting?
Is it inappropriate schooling so that what little knowledge we have is impractical and irrelevant to our needs for daily life?

Is it in our hands? Are our hearts and head no longer connected to our hands? And if not, how did that happen?
I don’t have the answers. But I will continue to ask the questions. Maybe then, socratically the answers will present themselves. But honestly, something has got to give. We are sacrificing our children for the greed of a few. Why? And it didn’t just start. This is the result of generations of the head, hands and heart not working properly in individuals. So, we are no longer making our own decisions. And we have little to no control over those who are.
